Naeric Petyarus

Redeemed hot-headed warrior priest of Sarenrae, Goddess of the Sun

I am Naeric Petyarus son of a merchant. Never knowning his face or my mothers is my curse. I was raised as a ward of Merchant Arma Grist. I am one of the Forlorn. Trained as a guard initially my aptitude for academic endeavors was noticed. Lord Grist had me educated in the ways of diplomacy, finance, and record keeping. I did well…too well. After years of loyal service Lord Grist saw me as a nuisance. I mistook his character for that of an honorable man. I was always a pawn to him. An expendable thing that would be deployed when applicable. He framed me in a faulty land deal that involved some Alabaster District dwellers. I was left destitute. Fortunately the land deal I was implicated in also involved one “Queeg Bloodfish”.

Bloodfish took me in and showed me the ways of “Under bridge”, my new residence. I did work as an enforcer a “living shadow” if you will. Made my quotas, kept the boss happy…hated myself the entire time. Under bridge will change a man… living in the shadow is detrimental to life…to the ideal of life. Death prevails in the Shadows. Either you kill or you die…you loose yourself when you enjoy the killing.

I have found the light of Sarenrae.
The truth of the Everlight; The honesty of the Dawnflower, the justice of the Healing Flame, what else do i need.
Sarenrae brings warmth and radiance to all souls who let her in. Those with compassionate hearts and kind intentions turn to Sarenrae as both the source and protector of all things good.

She teaches temperance and patience in all things. Compassion and peace are her greatest virtues, and if enemies of the faith can be redeemed, they should be. Yet there are those who have no interest in redemption, who glory in slaughter and death. From the remorseless evil of the undead and fiends to the cruelties born in the hearts of mortals, Sarenrae’s doctrines preach swift justice delivered by the scimitar’s edge. To this end, she expects her faithful to be skilled at swordplay, both as a form of martial art promoting centering of mind and body, and so that when they do enter battle, their foes do not suffer any longer than necessary.
-A book that tells the story of a legendary hero’s rise and fall, with the last chapter missing

-The Birth of Light and Truth (common doctrine of followers of Sarenrae)

{This text is unusual because it includes stories from times before Sarenrae was a true goddess, describing the creatures she faced and including a long list of names of fiends and horrors she destroyed long before mortals learned writing. The rest of the book is more practical than historical, explaining the beliefs of the church, offering advice on dealing with sin and temptation, and many parables of evil creatures seeing the light of the Dawnflower and turning to good, productive lives thereafter. The book also contains simple folk remedies for common illnesses and injuries, as well as helpful hints for dealing with common supernatural or monstrous evils, such as that vampires are vulnerable to garlic.

Most copies contain extra pages for the owner to record uplifting stories he experiences or hears in order to repeat them to others, and any copy containing a firsthand anecdote from a great priest or paladin is especially prized as a family or church heirloom. It is customary for a hero of the church who performs some great deed for a person or temple to write a brief account in or at least sign a local’s copy of Light and Truth (as it is commonly known) as a memento and historical record.}
